Specialist support, delivered with warmth
Our SEND provision is led by our SENDCo and delivered by a team with experience across a wide range of needs including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, PDA and social communication differences.
We use the Thrive approach to emotional development, alongside targeted academic and skills-based support. This means children feel safe and regulated, which is when real learning happens.
We work closely with families and, where relevant, with schools and local authorities to ensure a joined-up approach.

Who we support
The young people who come to Tuition Extra are not all the same — they have unique strengths and talents.
Many of the children and young people we support have co-occurring needs. Some have complex combinations that do not fit any single label. That is exactly why we start with the individual, not the diagnosis.
Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND)
Many children at Tuition Extra have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) identifying a wide range of needs. We have experience supporting children across the SEND spectrum. We work closely with local authorities and parents/carers to implement EHCP outcomes. Having an EHCP is not a prerequisite — we work with all children to meet individual needs.
Social, Emotional & Mental Health (SEMH)
Many of our young people experience social, emotional and mental health challenges making mainstream education genuinely unmanageable. The Thrive Approach informs our understanding of young people so we can respond with empathy, consistency and appropriate support to promote emotional regulation.
Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA)
We understand that young people with EBSA are not simply choosing not to attend. Their anxiety is real, their distress is genuine and they need support that acknowledges this. We understand that attendance builds through relationship and safety. We work gradually, at the child's pace, building the trust and confidence that makes attendance possible again.
Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC)
Our provision, with its calm spaces, predictable rhythms, and freedom from the social demands of a large school, can be genuinely beneficial for autistic young people. We adapt our provision to individual sensory and communication needs, focusing on positive relationships.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Our practical, activity-based provision is a much better fit for many young people with attention challenges. Physical activity, movement breaks, hands-on tasks and a flexible timetable mean that ADHD is less of an obstacle — instead something we can build around productively.
Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and Speech Language & Communication Needs (SLCN)
We adapt learning delivery so that the method matches the learner, not the other way round. This includes multi-sensory approaches, assistive technology, access arrangements and working with relevant professionals where targeted support is needed.
Children in Care (CIC)
Tuition Extra provides the consistency, warmth and reliability that care-experienced young people need. We work closely with Virtual School Heads, social workers, foster carers and residential workers to ensure our provision is genuinely joined up with the rest of the support around each child.
Alternative Provision (AP)
Tuition Extra accepts referrals as alternative provision for young people who are unable to attend their registered school, facing exclusion risk, or requiring a different educational environment. We can offer both short-term and longer-term placements and work with schools and local authorities to ensure appropriate review, documentation and communication throughout.
EHCPs, reviews, and working with your plan
We welcome children and young people with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Our provision aligns with EHCP outcomes and we contribute to annual review documentation where requested.
Our team works alongside other professionals - including OTs, SaLTs, and mental health practitioners - to provide co-ordinated support.
Where children are placed through a local authority or school, we follow agreed reporting protocols and maintain regular family contact throughout.
